Named by PC World magazine as one of the 10 Best Tech Fake-Outs of all time, a list that included such ubiquitous greats as Alien Autopsy and Steorn. And, believe it or not, it was a mere class project for VIS 40/ICAM 40 at UC San Diego. Notable folks who have stepped in as the role of “quietly agonized professor” include New-Media/Environmental artist Brett Stalbaum and “father of hacktivism” Ricardo Dominguez. It has been performed nearly a dozen times now, always to groups of freshmen who are unaware of the scam, making them stare like rabbits in the headlights at the technology demo horror unfolding & melting down before them.
